Today we have something a little different. You could say that in some way they share the same mechanical traits. You see the thing is, a man that loves the mechanical aspect of cars tends to, inevitably, have the same admiration of watches and the same could be said vice versa. So, last week we spent a day at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to enjoy the sights and sounds of cars/bikes making their way up the Goodwood Hill Climb (which also included some old school F1 cars, which sound absolutely amazing). If you are unfamiliar with how the Goodwood Hill Climb works, we shall give a brief overview on how it works.
GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED 2014 – THE 1.16-MILE COURSE
The 1.16-mile course starts as a tree-lined run through the southern corner of the Goodwood Estate which then turns to sweep past the front of Goodwood House before climbing a steep and narrow Estate road bordered by flint walls and dense woodland groves towards Goodwood’s equine racecourse on top of the magnificent South Downs.
The course rises over 300ft from the start line to the finish, and is very technical and challenging, putting the skills of the world’s very best drivers and riders to the ultimate test of concentration and speed. Although over the years just a momentary lapse in concentration has seen drivers crash out of the course.
Each day, no fewer than 300 cars and motorcycles sprint their way up the iconic Hill Climb in a truly inspiring display of performance, power and pace. The vehicles are grouped thematically into classes of comparable machinery, with the oldest running first.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé was regarded as the world’s fastest car in the 1950s and of the nine W196s chassis built one was destroyed during the Le Mans disaster, this is truly a beautiful machine! But I think what is even cooler about this car is the fact that its transport vehicle has been modified so that it can reach ridiculously high speeds.

CARTIER ‘STYLE ET LUXE’ CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE
While it was absolutely exhilarating to hear racing cars/bikes roaring up the hill, we couldn’t wait to see what cars where over in the Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ concours d’elegance and believe you me, we were not disappointed one bit.
The Cartier ‘Style et Luxe’ concours d’elegance celebrated its 20th appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year with an incredible display of exquisite automotive machinery across seven dedicated classes. Situated on the Cartier Lawn, the concours d’elegance continues to be renowned as the definitive celebration of fine automotive design and the display assembled at Goodwood is no exception.
