OMEGA Speedmaster ’57 Co-Axial – While everybody was busy salivating over the new Speedmaster “Dark Side of the Moon” (myself included), Omega also served up another treat in the form of this new Speedmaster ’57.
Omega do like conjuring up a bit of nostalgia, and this is what they’ve done with the Speedmaster ’57. The original Speedmaster was first introduced in the 1957 – Omega have attempted to keep this new iteration as close to the original and highly desirable CK 2915. The steel bezel and straight lugs are very reminiscent of the original Speedmaster. However, the two register dial is very in-keeping with Omega’s new styling. This makes sense as it houses the 9300 Co-Axial Chronograph movement – which is rapidly becoming rather popular on its own merit. The good news is, although it uses the 9300 calibre movement – Omega have managed to keep the size of the case down to, a perfectly proportioned, 42mm. My only reservations are the two sub-dials but this isn’t enough to put me off this timepiece.
Will the Speedmaster fans like it? I sure hope so, as Omega have married the best of the old with the new and this is the result. This new Omega offering has two dial options of black or White – you’ll also have a choice of strap too; steel or brown leather.
